Paraguay stronger after free and democratic elections

Liberal International , vrijdag 03 mei 2013

“The Paraguayan people acted with democratic maturity and went en masse to cast their ballots, where turnout surpassed 68%; it shows strengthening of democracy in our country”, said Raul Mongelós Schneider, PLRA's international secretary. It was under the careful stewardship of the PLRA and Paraguay's former president, Federico Franco, that Paraguay was returned to stability ahead of this round of elections following a political crisis in 2012, which saw Franco's predecessor impeached.

LI offered its continuous support to the PLRA, as noted in the World Today Resolution, in which LI expressed full support to PLRA in the legislative and Presidential elections. LI sent a delegation to Paraguay earlier this year, which included LI President, Hans van Baalen and LI Secretary General, Emil Kirjas, who praised the work of “the oldest Liberal party of Latin America”.
